Talbot family papers, 1865-1995.

Bulk of collection is correspondence from Anna Louisa and Richard Ely Talbot to their daughters Elizabeth and Anna while the pair attended Abbot Female Academy in Massachusetts from June 1865 to December 1867. The letters (65 from Anna Louisa and 17 from Richard Ely) provide information about local Texas politics following the Civil War and trace economic development and turmoil in the area. They include descriptions of Richard Talbot's work to register voters and relate his interest in local and state politics. There are references to military movements in the area, outbreaks of yellow fever in New Orleans, and cattle runs along the Chisholm Trail which ran close by the Talbot's property. The letters also record Talbot family news, issue parental advice, and make numerous references to the Talbots' New England relatives, including Thomas Talbot. There are also three letters to the two young women from their siblings as well as correspondence from other relatives. Two short notes between the Andersons briefly document their personal relationship. Collection also includes report cards from the Abbot Female Academy for both Anna and Elizabeth; a manuscript essay on "Charity" in an unidentified hand, with a comment on the recto in pencil; definitions of "conversion" and "regeneration" in manuscript, also in an unidentified hand; a pressed plant; and debit accounts for Mrs. Edwin Anderson. Genealogical material consists of five issues of the Williamson Country Genealogical Society's "The Chisholm Trail" containing articles about the Talbots and Andersons.
